On the afternoon of December 17th, 2018, the photo exhibition of Jiangxi Federation of Literary and Art Circles commemorating the 40th anniversary of reform and opening-up was held in the exhibition hall on the first floor of the old library. More than ten international students from Pakistan, Venezuela, Nigeria and other countries visited the photo exhibition and some of them expressed their feelings.
Zaid Bin Jawaid, one of PhD students from Pakistan, said, “In these 40 years Chinese economy and nation has achieved unbelievable marvels. 800 Million people have been lifted out of poverty since these reforms. Three Gorges Dam, Beijing Olympics and highest GDP are just few in line of so many achievements of China since these reforms. High speed rail, e-commerce, mobile payments, these are all the fruits of economic reforms and it is really amazing thing. A mega infrastructure project proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in September 2013, China invested more than $50 billion in countries along the Belt and Road. As a first hand observer of Chinese economic development and prosperity, I have seen the fruits of these economic reforms with my own eyes from past five years since I started studying in China. Now China only needs continuity and stability of these reforms so that they can be a light for Chinese people as well as people of other nations too.”
A post-graduate student Tayo from Nigeria said, “The Economic reform of china has not only brought about a positive change economically but also socially. China arguably has the longest historical culture in the world with rich heritage and distinct features. Before its reform, non natives knew very little and even those that knew a lot had little or no first hand contact with the culture. Upon opening up with its reform, thousands of people, scholars, students and tourists have travelled into china to experience the splendour of its culture firsthand. This has somewhat contributed to the development of its tourism industry and has served as a means of educating non Chinese people about the rich history of China.”
This event showed the magnificent historical process of the 40th anniversary of reform and opening up, broadened the horizons of international students and promoted cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries. After visiting the exhibition, these international students all felt the profound changes in economy and society of Jiangxi Province, and were amazed at the rapid development of China's economy, society, humanities and other undertakings.
