  • Study-Abroad Fair: Building a Bridge for Teachers and Students of JUFE to Go Global

  •   Under the colorful flags of different countries and the melody of ‘My Motherland and I’, there were lots of lovely and energetic faces with beautiful smiles, sitting in front of the red stage. They held picture albums and chatted quietly, as if talking about the theme of the times: go global, experience the world.

      On the morning of October 13th, representatives of 37 universities from 20 countries gathered at the Twelve Zodiac Square of Mailuyuan Campus. It marked the official commencement of the 14th Study-Abroad Fair, hosted by the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and co-organized by the Students' International Communication Association.

      Vice President Wang Xiaoping attended the opening ceremony and delivered the speech. The opening ceremony attendees were: Directors of CPC Committee Office and President’s Office of JUFE, CPC Publicity Department, Students Affairs Department, Youth League Committee, Dean's Office, Graduate School, Admission and Employment Department and other departments, as well as Deans of School of Business Administration, School of Accountancy, School of Economics, School of Statistics, School of Information Management, School of Tourism and Urban Management, Law School, School of Foreign Languages, School of Sports, International College, Overseas Education School and College of Modern Economics and Management. The opening ceremony was presided over by Xiao Long, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange(OICE). Liu Xiaobing, the Vice Director of the OICE, briefed the guests on the work of students studying abroad in JUFE in 2019.

      On behalf of our university, Wang Xiaoping warmly welcomed and thanked the representatives from overseas partner  universities at the opening ceremony for coming to the fair. He overviewed the achievements of our university's internationalization and believed that this was a result of the joint efforts of JUFE and all overseas partner universities. At the same time, he encouraged JUFE students to seize the opportunities provided by the country and university, to boldly go abroad, experience the world's multi-culture, broaden their international horizons, and strive to become an international talent. Then, on behalf of all the overseas partner universities, Professor Martin Broad, Dean of Business School of Southampton University, made a speech. He highly praised the arrangement of fair activities and the excellent performance of JUFE students. He said that he would be willing to provide opportunities and consultation for them to study abroad. He expected to see them at overseas campuses, and he looked forward to expanding the cooperation between the two universities at new fields.

      Representatives from participating universities patiently answered questions from teachers and students who came to the fair. Questions mainly include educational exchanges in overseas countries, hardware and software facilities, and professional set-up of their universities, etc. Based on students’ current situation, representatives provided thoughtful guidance and suggestions related to overseas study. A great number of students took this opportunity to have a face-to-face conversation with representatives from different overseas universities.

      On the eve of the fair, the University Strategy on Internationalization seminar was held on schedule. Attendees include more than 40 Deans, Vice Deans and Foreign Affairs secretaries of Graduate School, School of Accountancy, School of International Trade and Economics, School of Economics, School of Statistics, School of Information Management, School of Foreign Languages and other related colleges who in charge of internationalization.  They held in-depth talks with representatives from overseas partner  universities on students' international cooperation training, teachers' exchanges and scientific research cooperation. During this period, Vice President Wang Xiaoping met with representatives of the University of Southampton in Britain, the University of Applied Sciences Wurzburg- Schweinfurt in Germany, Audencia Nantes cole de Management in France, Saint Mary University in the United States and Cracow University of Economics in Poland. He mentioned about the projects of joint training of Ph.D. students, teachers to attend international academic conferences, and inviting foreign experts and scholars to come to our university for academic visits.

      The annual Study-Abroad Fair has tightened the connection between our university and overseas partner universities, enriched the atmosphere of university strategy on internationalization, enhanced the enthusiasm of teachers and students of JUFE to study abroad, and enabled students who have the intention of studying abroad to have clearer goals and plans for their future. The Study-Abroad Fair has become a symbolic activity for our university to depict the new international chapter of the year. It marks the development of our university internationalization and diligent work for the New Era education.  ​
